Soundcheck Archive: Here is older material. Enjoy.

April 2005: Mayin Tarlasi: I had 2 great vocalists on this song: Aslihan and friend that lives here in Seattle: Gokce Sezgin. I experimented with using stereo effects for guitars on some tracks this time and worked out pretty well. I am happy with my vocalists but not too happy with the vocal tracks on this one. I used Gokce for the leads and Aslihan did back vocals. There is no polyphony between back and lead vocals but I used distortion effect for the back vocals through guitarport. As always, I play all instruments. The song is titled "mine field" and originally from Sebnem Ferah. I remember playing on the same stage a few times way back. Last time I saw her was in a Bulent Ortacgil concert in Istanbul. She blew away the crowd with "Degirmenler - Windmills". I tried to stick with the same simplicity she put in the song. I think I messed it up pretty well =).

March 2005: Yanlizlik Paylasilmaz: I just like the base line on this song. I experimented with playing the vocals as solo guitar and found that it is extremely difficult to get it right. The song is originally from Duman. He has a very distinctive style on vocals and recordings have always been very plain and simple. Back in the days, "Mad Madame" with Yakup Trana, the original band was pretty well known. Now Duman is doing very well in Turkey. Very neat song. Great lyrics.

Feb, 2005: Baglar: My brother, Batuhan, did most of the heavy lifting on this one. I play all the instruments and few vocals and Batuhan the lead vocals. This piece is very mellow mediterranean song by Grup Gundogarken. I am not too happy with the vocal effects and some of the rhythm section is a little off so we will have to rerecord those parts again later but for now, here is what I have:

Jan, 2005: Sevda Cicegi: This is my own interpretation of "Sevda Cicegim" by Fikret Kizilok inspired by yet another interpretation from "Mor ve Otesi". Vocals on this is all done by Hulya Incoglu. Due to some technical problem, click track is bleeding through on this one. I fixed it for the instrument tracks. I hope to fix it on the vocal tracks soon.

Sept, 2004: Yerli Mali: We recorded 2 pieces by Yakup Trana with Mr. Trana himself, Ruchan, Ferhan and myself. The songs have a unique Turkish sound to it. Yakup uses an alternate tuning for the guitar to get to these sounds. Needless to say, this is all done by a pro: My Trana himself.
